Man killed in area crash

By TRAVINA COLEMAN

A Locust Grove man died Tuesday afternoon at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Mayes County, two miles south of Locust Grove.

Curtis James Prescott, 77, was driving a 1970 Ford Maverick northbound on a county road when he failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected to the left, then traveled back across the roadway.

The vehicle overturned once before coming to rest on its wheels, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

Tommy Eugene Collins Jr., 34, also of Locust Grove, suffered arm injuries, but refused treatment.

Prescott was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated by the Locust Grove Fire Department. He suffered massive injuries.

Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt. The crash was investigated by OHP Trooper Colby Overstreet of the Mayes County Detachment.
