Keys settles with former teacher

By TRAVINA COLEMAN

KEYS — The Keys Board of Education met Monday night to approve the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting.

In Superintendent Jerry Hood’s report to the board, he asked them to consider the purchase of two new 24-foot trailers for the 4-H club.

“One would be a sheep and goat trailer, and the other would be for hogs,” he said.

“Those with cattle usually haul their own.”

Also in the report, Hood told the board the insurance company settled with a former teacher, Tammy Burgess, who tried to file a discrimination suit against the district about three years ago.

“They settled with her for $9,000,” Hood said. “She wasn’t rehired and then we did away with the position.

A resolution calling for school board election seat No. 5 was passed.

“This is Curtis Brannon’s seat,” Hood said. “It’s for a five-year term.”
