Illegal alien charged with rape

An alleged illegal alien has been charged with first-degree rape and forcible sodomy in Cherokee County District Court.

Juan Gamboa is charged with allegedly committing the acts Oct. 18. The alleged victim is identified in court documents by her initials to protect her identity.

The rape count is punishable by a term of not less than five years. A defendant can also receive the death penalty upon conviction of first-degree rape. The sodomy count is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Gamboa’s bond has been set at $50,000. An immigration hold has been placed on Gamboa. His initial arraignment is set Nov. 12.

OKC man hit with drug charges

Cherokee County prosecutors filed drug possession charges against an Oklahoma City man arrested by NSU police last month.

Matthew Thomas Peterson, 21, was charged with possession of a controlled drug within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a controlled drug. Authorities allege he had marijuana within 1,000 feet of NSU and also had Lortab in his possession.

The marijuana count is filed as a felony and carries a possible penalty of two to 10 years in prison and the misdemeanor count carries a possible year jail term and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

His formal arraignment is scheduled today at 1 p.m.

Hunter shot, killed Saturday

GOWEN (AP) — A deer hunter has been shot and killed in the Gowen Mountain area in southeast Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says 44-year-old John A. Morgan of Hartshorne was shot and killed about 6 p.m. Saturday while deer hunting in Latimer County.

Latimer County Sheriff Israel Beauchamp identified the shooter as Jack Zearley of the Hartshorne area.
