The second-degree rape case of a former Tahlequah High School coach has been put on hold.
Chris Massey, 29, appeared before District Judge Darrell Shepherd this week on the charge with his attorney, Todd Hembree.
Court records indicate Massey is to receive a psychiatric evaluation.
The case is now rescheduled for Nov. 19.
Massey was charged in April 2008 after an investigation by Tahlequah Police Detective Capt. Dale Glory.
Authorities allege Massey had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old female student on or about Feb. 21, 2007. Glory’s affidavit states Massey and the girl had sex three times while Massey was employed by the school district.
Glory interviewed the girl Jan. 3, 2008, and she told him she and Massey had sex while she was a student at the school.
Prosecutors said, in a previous interview, that Massey is charged under a section of the law that applies when the victim is between 16-20 and is a high school student engaging in sexual intercourse with someone who is 18 years or older and is employed with the same school system.
