Cherokee County’s Governmental Building Authority took care of some year-end housekeeping items and approved a contract for monitoring fire alarms during their first meeting of the month.
Cherokee County Detention Center Administrator Loyd Bickel said the contract with Simplex Grinnell will be for them to check the sprinkler system, fire extinguishers and related items. He said the company can’t repair the fire alarm, but they can provide the yearly monitoring that is required
The contract is for $726.72.
District 1 Commissioner Doug Hubbard, current CCGBA chairman, explained to the board that they also needed to act on a budget for the first six months of the fiscal year. He said the authority, just like county offices, approve half of what was spent the previous year as a budget amount for the first six months of the new fiscal year. Half of last year’s budget is $649,257.39, he said.
In a related matter, the board approved unencumbered balances that will roll over into the new year’s budget.
A list of reserve purchase orders was also approved.
The purchase orders have been received, but lack necessary paperwork to be finalized.
In a brief administrative report, Bickel said 104 inmates were in jail Wednesday morning and only 12 are women. One prisoner was on medical watch and four were waiting out holds for immigration officials.
