A Cherokee tribal member has been chosen to advise President Barack Obama on Indian Country issues.
The president announced Monday the appointment of Kimberly Teehee as his senior policy adviser on Indian Country issues. Teehee has worked for U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee, D-Mich., since 1998. Kildee is co-chair of the House Native American Caucus.
Teehee has served as director of Native American Outreach for the Presidential Inauguration Committee for former President Bill Clinton’s second inauguration as the deputy director at the Democratic National Committee.
Teehee received a bachelor of arts in political science from NSU and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law. During her school years, she received a Bureau of National Affairs Award and served in leadership positions in the National Native American Law Student Association and the Iowa Native American Law Student Association.
Teehee held several positions within the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, including law clerk in the Division of Law and Justice.
