A Cherokee County man with a lengthy criminal history is facing new charges in the wake of a burglary investigation.
Andrew Jason Mathis, 31, was arrested Monday at his residence off Bryant Road on single counts of second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property.
A report by Undersheriff Jason Chennault states the charges are the result of a March 14 burglary of the Lawn Mower Shop north of Tahlequah. Several chainsaws were allegedly stolen and later sold to other individuals.
Tahlequah police are also considering Mathis as a possible suspect in a burglary they’re investigating.
Department of Corrections records show Mathis has convictions for receiving stolen property, uttering a forged instrument, assault and battery on a minor child, grand larceny and second-degree burglary. The DOC website indicates Mathis was released in April 2008, but is on probation until April 2012.
The investigation into the Lawn Mower Shop burglary is continuing.
