Sex offender nets charge for failing to register

By BOB GIBBINS

TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — A $5,000 bond was set Tuesday afternoon on a Tahlequah man arrested for failure to register as a sex offender.

Terry Daniel Arneecher, 53, was arrested by TPD Detective Jeff Haney at the Grand China motel after Haney received information he had moved into a restricted area. The motel is in a restricted zone, Haney’s report states.

The report states Arneecher, convicted in Rogers County for lewd or indecent acts or proposals to a child, notified Haney he moved by sliding a note under Haney’s office door. That act also violates the registration restrictions.

Arneecher notified Haney of his address change July 8, but moved there July 5.

Haney contacted Arn-eecher and told him he could not stay at the location because it violated the 2,000-foot rule by being within 2,000 feet of a city, county or state park. Arneecher allegedly indicated he understood the violation, but was upset because he had already paid a full month’s rent.

He was previously registered at a residence on Lane Avenue that was unrestricted.

On Tuesday, Haney contacted the motel manager, who said Arneecher was still living in the same apartment, and that Arneecher told her Haney had indicated it wasn’t a violation for him to live there.

Haney located Arneecher at the apartment, and found evidence he was still living there. Arneecher was arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

The state’s sex offender registry indicates Arneecher is a habitual sex offender and must register for the remainder of his life. He was last released from prison March 28 and has a previous conviction for failing to register as a sex offender.
