TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — HULBERT – Hulbert School Board members accepted the high school baseball coach’s resignation Monday night.
Scott Sapulpa – who acted as coach and teacher for one year at Hulbert, according to the school’s Web site – submitted his resignation effective July 2. In his letter, Sapulpa thanked school officials for giving him the opportunity to work at the school, but did not indicate why he was leaving.
The Hulbert Riders baseball team ended its 2008 season with a 3-18 record.
Following an executive session, the board approved hiring Todd Scott as social studies teacher/coach on a temporary contract for next year, pending a background check and drug screening. The board also accepted the resignation of high school English teacher Amanda Hendrix, who said in her letter of resignation she had accepted a position with Tahlequah Public Schools.
Hendrix taught at Hulbert a year, her first in the profession. The board later approved hiring Lakisha Blandon to fill the English teacher position on a temporary contract for 2008-’09, pending background check and drug screening.
Board members – minus President Kent Barnes, who was absent – approved contracts for Cole Purget, Amy Anderson, Carla Johnson, Michelle Morgan and Shannon Gourd for the 2008-’09 year.
An agenda item calling for discussion on a district drug-testing policy was tabled at the recommendation of Superintendent Wayne Ryals.
During a meeting June 9, the board voted 3-2 against Ryals’ recommendation to hire Cheryl Bridges as a fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade English teacher.
Cheryl, wife of new high school principal Kenneth Bridges, was hired later that month in a 3-1 vote during a special meeting, Kenneth told the Press Monday night.
Kenneth said there’s a lot of work going on at the high school. Physicals for girls were held in Hulbert at the NeoHealth clinic Monday, and physicals for boys will be held today from 1 p.m. to close.
Enrollment for juniors and seniors will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.; for freshmen and sophomores Wednesday, Aug. 6, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
