TAHLEQUAH — STILWELL – Adair County prosecutors charged three area men with failing to register as sex offenders.
Two cases were filed as a result of probes by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office and the Stilwell Police Department. Appearance bonds were set at $20,000 each.
Lyle Dean Walters, 51, of Watts, was con-victed of lewd acts or proposals to a child. He has allegedly failed to register with Adair County sheriff’s deputies.
Christopher Richards, 36, Stilwell, was convicted of sexual battery in Connecticut in 1994. Stilwell Police Detective Chad Smith alleges Richards has not registered as a sex offender with the SPD.
The third man – Bryian Scott White, 44 – was convicted in Tulsa of permitting the sexual abuse of a child. He now lives in Watts and has allegedly failed to register with the sheriff’s office. Court documents state White is considered a habitual offender and must register for the rest of his life.
Failure to register as a sex offender is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Assistant District Attorney A.J. Garcia is prosecuting the cases. The men will appear before Associate District Judge Elizabeth Brown for arraignment after their arrests.
