Tahlequah residents have the opportunity on Tuesday to select the men who will head the city’s police and street departments, and who will represent Ward 2 residents.
Four men are looking to be the chief of police for the next four years: incumbent Clay Mahaney, and challengers Nate King, Charley Batt, and Steve Farmer.
Street Commissioner Mike Corn hopes to win re-election to his post over challenger Terry Garrett.
Four men are also looking to replace outgoing Ward 2 Councilor Jack Spears later this year: David Whitekiller, Gary Cacy, Charles Carroll and Jonathan Wells.
Early voting began Friday and continues Monday, Feb. 11, at the Cherokee County Election Board, with precinct voting Tuesday, Feb. 12.
To avoid a run-off election April 2, a candidate in the races for chief of police and Ward 2 must win 50 percent of the vote, plus one vote, according to Cherokee County Election Board officials.
Voters in school districts for Keys, Woodall, and Peggs will also vote Tuesday to select school board members. Candidates for school board must also receive more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff in April.
