Folks looking forward to a night out to enjoy a glass of wine while checking out merchant deals in downtown Tahlequah will get a chance soon.
Tahlequah Main Street Director Drew Haley said this year’s Wines of Winter affair is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7, and he expects the 2013 edition to be well-received.
“All the merchants will have things on sale. They’ll be putting their best foot forward,” he said.
“Each participating merchant will provide a gift of some kind, and there will be drawings for all of those items. There could be $600 to $700 worth of stuff for a prize for somebody. A lot of the merchants will do drawings on their own. It’s just a great social night out on the town.”
The commemorative wine glass, which can be purchased at participating Main Street locations, gives the buyer access to a wine-tasting, Haley said.
“We’ll sit down and put a list together of which wines will go where,” he said. “[Those who purchase glasses] will be provided a nice little wine card that they can take with them so they can remember what they tasted and where.”
Haley said he will finalize the list of participating merchants by Friday, Jan. 18. Those interested can go to www.tmsa ok.com to learn more.
“The [wine glass] I’m getting this time is a little nicer than the last one,” he said. “Starting [this] week, they can purchase their glasses.”
Another event Haley is planning is an Oscar watch party, set for Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Dream Theater. He’s been trying to decide whether a license will be required to show the award ceremony, famously known for its golden statue named Oscar.
“I talked to another theater in Philadelphia a while ago about doing an Oscar watch party at the Dream Theater, and the question would be whether there would be some license involved in actually showing it,” he said. “They said ‘Well, we’ve done it for years.’ It’d be Sunday night. You would get dressed up kind of like you’re going to the event. A group of our board members definitely want to do it. Watch more for more information.”
Looking ahead to the annual Red Fern Festival, Haley said the April event will be “just two days” this year.
“We’re just doing to do Friday and Saturday. We do hope to include the [Dream] Theater this year. We might show the movie in there,” he said.
“The car show’s going to be bigger. We’ve already talked to Mitchell DuVall about the car show. It’s bigger. We’ll have the barbecue cookoff. We’ll have the duck race, the hound dog field trials, live music, arts and crafts and lots of food. It’s all coming together.”
