TAHLEQUAH —
A Tahlequah woman is being charged in Cherokee County for allegedly giving a synthetic drug, smoking pipe, and cold pills to a 12-year-old girl earlier this month.
Terrie Deckard, 18, has been charged with two felony counts of causing, aiding or abetting a minor in a drug crime, and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Local law enforcement officers responded to a trailer park on Bryant Road July 15 after receiving reports that some people had been using a synthetic drug, often referred to as K2 or “spice.” Deckard and another female were found outside, according to a Cherokee County sheriff’s report. Officers were told a 12-year-old girl was having seizures nearby.
During the investigation, witnesses told police they saw Deckard give the girl a pipe and small baggy. When interviewed later, the girl allegedly told officers Deckard had also given her three pills, described as “Skittles,” before they started smoking the substance in the pipe.
Prosecutors allege Deckard encouraged the 12-year-old girl to possess the “counterfeit” controlled dangerous substance by handing her the pipe containing fake cannabis. Prosecutors allege the pills were cold medication that caused the child to become intoxicated in a public place, and contributed to her delinquency.
Each count of causing, aiding or abetting a minor in a drug crime is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, and not more than a year in the county jail.
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor carries the same possible fine and up to a year in prison.
