Agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are looking into what they call the “suspicious” death of a Cookson man whose body was discovered Wednesday.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Capt. Bob Sanders was sent to West Cookson Bend Road Wednesday after Bradford Brooks, 56, was found dead outside of his home, which is located in a trailer park.
Sanders said one of Brooks’ family members had last seen him at about 1 p.m. the previous day. The family member went to Brooks’ home and found his body sometime between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Brooks – a disabled veteran who was fighting some health issues and required a large amount of medications – lived alone, according to Sanders, and had no known enemies.
Sanders said investigators initially believed Brooks’ injuries could be related to his medical issues, but also considered Brooks’ death somewhat suspicious because of the scene at the home. Sanders said he decided to call in crime-scene experts with the OSBI to assist in the investigation.
Brooks was outside, between his car and his house, and was clothed, but had no shoes or socks on. He had scratches on his face, and a large injury to one of his eyes, Sanders said.
Blood was found in several places inside Brooks’ home, and some of Brooks’ medications could be missing, family members said.
According to a statement released by the OSBI, the state medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of Brooks’ death.
