TAHLEQUAH —
A Van Buren, Ark., man shot last January after he was reportedly caught breaking into a home has formally been charged in Cherokee County District Court.
Steve Moore, 52, faces one felony count of attempted first-degree burglary and three felony counts of knowingly concealing stolen property.Prosecutors allege Moore broke into Jimmy Snow’s home in the Chicken Creek area on Jan. 26, 2012, and attempted to steal an SKS rifle, three guitars, a guitar case, and two bags of movies and clothing.
He is also accused of concealing a picture and tools that had been stolen from Karen Jones; a gas can and personal flotation devices that had been stolen from Maynard Castoe; and fishing poles that had been stolen from Norman Orr.
In the process of the home burglary in Chicken Creek, Snow reportedly arrived at his home and caught Moore amid the attempted burglary. Court documents say Snow retrieved an SKS rifle and shot Moore, then held him at gunpoint until law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. Attempted first-degree burglary is punishable by seven to 20 years in prison, while each count of knowingly concealing stolen property is punishable by no more than five years in state prison, up to a year in a county jail, and a fine of not more than $500.
