TAHLEQUAH —
Members of the Tahlequah Industrial Authority board Monday evening approved the sale of more than 13 acres of land in the city’s industrial park.
The agreement will allow American Woodmark Corp. to purchase the 13.71 acres of land around the company’s vacant facility, an option the company was granted earlier this year under a ground-lease agreement signed with the authority.
TIA would be paid $600,000 for the 13.71 acres of land if the deals are finalized. Woodmark officials want to then sell the property and vacant building to an undisclosed entity.
Cherokee Nation Property Management Inc. was attempting to reach a deal to buy the vacant Woodmark facility earlier this year.
Trustees also discussed inquiries from another possible tenant interested in space at the industrial park. Chairman Mark Gish said he has visited with a local business owner who is interested in 3 acres of land south of the Woodmark facility.
The business owner would also like an option for more land if future expansions warrant.
Gish said he couldn’t disclose details of the business, but that it would entail several manufacturing jobs, with a 24,000-square-foot building and an adjacent 2,100-square-foot office building.
Gish asked trustees to give thought to whether the board would be interested in selling the land; granting a long-term lease on the land with the business owner constructing the facilities; or if TIA could construct a building and provide a long-term lease on the building and land.
