Man gets two years for failing to register

By JOSH NEWTON Staff Writer

TAHLEQUAH — MUSKOGEE – A Muldrow man was sentenced to two years in federal prison Tuesday for failing to register as a sex offender.

John Dean Lockett, 44, was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release, which will follow his two-year sentence.

Lockett pleaded guilty to the charges in August. He had been indicted in March 2012 after an investigation by the U.S. Marshal Service.

Lockett was convicted of lewd molestation in Cherokee County in July 2009. He was arrested last March by U.S. Marshals in Fort Worth, Texas, after authorities received information he was living in that area.

According to U.S. Attorney Mark Green’s office, Lockett is required to register as a sex offender because of his previous conviction.

Lockett will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal Service until he is transported to the federal prison, where he will serve his sentence with no chance of parole.

District Judge Ronald White presided over Tuesday’s hearing in Muskogee.
