TAHLEQUAH —
Investigators with the District 27 Drug Task Force arrested a man inside his motel room Tuesday on drug-related complaints, just days after the man was released from jail to seek treatment.
Jackie Lee Gawf, 51, of Tahlequah, was booked this week for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Gawf has several previous drug-related charges in Cherokee County, and last week had been released from jail so he could attend in-patient treatment.
Investigators said they contacted Gawf at Oak Park Motel Tuesday afternoon, and later noticed a bent metal spoon that contained a white, powdery substance.
Gawf was then arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center on the drug-related charges, and his alleged violation of a court order.
Investigators said they asked Gawf several times if he had any other items they needed to know about, and Gawf told them he didn’t. But officers at CCDC found two small, plastic bags containing a white, powdery substance in Gawf’s front pocket. The bags were turned over to investigators, who said the substances field tested positive as methamphetamine.
The items collected by investigators were sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for testing.
Court records show Gawf was charged last month with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and pleaded not guilty.
Gawf was charged in 2004 with possession of paraphernalia, and received a one-year suspended sentence. Later that same year, he was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug and unlawful possession of paraphernalia. He was sent to the Department of Corrections and graduated in 2010 from the treatment phase of drug court, according to court records.
The previous year, Gawf was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug, felony driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, resisting an officer, attempting to elude, and reckless driving.
