Local man charged with concealing stolen items

TAHLEQUAH — Prosecutors have filed charges against a Tahlequah man for concealing items stolen from a car in the city earlier this week.

Ryan Joe Adair, 33, is facing a felony charge of knowingly concealing stolen property. Adair allegedly concealed a stolen XBox 360, which had been taken from Andrew Strange sometime between Jan. 7 and 8.

According to a report filed by Tahlequah Officer Shawn Presley, he was called to a home on North Ash Tuesday to investigate an automobile burglary. Strange reported a number of missing items, including the game console and related equipment.

Presley said he was also investigating another auto burglary, and began to canvass the area looking for possible witnesses.

Police said there were several reported car burglaries in the area in recent days.

Presley later called a local gaming business and learned a man had gone to the business and sold an XBox console and a game there, and tried to sell a game controller.

 The man later discarded the game controller into a trash can at the store.

Presley went to the business and called Strange, who was able to properly identify the items sold to the business. Officers recovered the items and verified Adair as the man who had sold them.

Adair allegedly signed his name to a paper claiming ownership of the items, and officers also verified Adair’s identity through surveillance footage.

Police said Adair was arrested Wednesday for an outstanding warrant, and he remained in jail at the Cherokee County Detention Center Thursday.
