TAHLEQUAH —
Cherokee County sheriff’s investigators arrested a Tahlequah man this week on drug-related charges.
Jesse Daniel Smith, 23, was booked into jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, child endangerment, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Sheriff’s Investigator Gary Cacy said he received a tip indicating a suspect in a burglary investigation had arrived a trailer home at Butterfly Trailer Park, near Park Hill and Murrell Home roads. Cacy went to the trailer to look for the suspect, but when he arrived, three men inside tried to hide.
Cacy said there were three men, a woman, and a toddler inside the trailer. While he tried to identify the people to determine whether one of them was the suspect in his burglary probe, Cacy noticed a wooden box with a grinder – a tool used to crush marijuana leaves for smoking purposes – sitting in the living room.
According to Cacy, Smith admitted the grinder was his, as was the wooden box. Cacy said there was a green, leafy substance in the grinder and inside the box. Smith allegedly said the grinder was used to prepare marijuana for his personal use.
Smith also led investigators to several smoking pipes and a glass “bong” stem, all of which contained black residue from burnt marijuana, according to Cacy.
Cacy said all of the items found in the home were near the floor, in a trash can or on a counter, all of which were within reach of the toddler that was in the home.
Smith allegedly admitted he had purchased beer and allowed a 19-year-old man in the home to consume the beverage. Cacy said Smith and the 19-year-old were drinking the beer when he arrived at the home.
