Convicted sex offender competent to stand trial

TAHLEQUAH — A convicted sex offender accused of failing to follow registration guidelines, and who was found living in a motor home in Cherokee County last year, has been determined competent.

Ronald Branson Jr., 30, has pleaded not guilty to failing to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act.

He was ordered to receive a competency evaluation in February, and last week stipulated to being competent when the evaluation was completed and results were provided, court records show.

A judge has set Branson’s preliminary hearing for April 10 at 9 a.m. in Cherokee County District Court.

Branson allegedly failed to register in the Eufaula area, and was found by investigators to be living in a motor home with his parents in the Tahlequah area. Branson allegedly admitted, following his arrest, he had been living in the area for about a month and had not notified police.

Court records show Branson was arrested in 2007 for making lewd or indecent proposals to a child under age 16.
