TAHLEQUAH —

Cherokee County prosecutors will not be filing domestic abuse charges against a local woman arrested late last month by NSU police.

Assistant District Attorney David Pierce said there will be no charges against Anna McCain, who was arrested by NSU Officer John Burmeier Feb. 28 for an alleged assault on Devon Murray.

Pierce said Assistant District Attorney B.J. Baker reviewed the case.

Pierce added there was evidence of mutual combat, but without any noticeable injuries.

He also said McCain and Murray plan to be married.

Murray completed an affidavit, stating he did not want McCain prosecuted for the offense. Pierce said Murray indicated the incident had been “blown out of proportion.”

No further action is planned against McCain by the district attorney’s office.
