Cherokee County Assessor Erlene Luper has issued a reminder to property owners that March 15 is the last day to file for homestead exemption for 2010.
The property owner’s deed has to be filed by Feb. 1, 2010, to be eligible for homestead for the 2010 tax year.
Homeowners who qualify for the double homestead, and those who are 65 or older and who qualify for the senior freeze, must also file by March 15.
Business and personal assessments and all other personal assessments must be filed by March 15.
The property owner’s homestead is automatic for those who are still living in the same place and have filed homestead on it. They must bring proof of income for the double homestead and the senior freeze. Those who qualify for the 100 percent disabled veterans’ exemption must bring the letter they received from the Veterans Administration.
