Chemicals found in house raid

TAHLEQUAH —

A Tahlequah man faces drug manufacturing charges after police found him allegedly disposing of chemicals late Thursday.

Bradley Wells, 26, was booked on charges of endeavoring to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia. Additional charges maybe filed.

An informant told Lt. David Huffman a methamphetamine lab was operating at 611 S. Mission. Three officers who went to the residence running inside as they approached.

They detected a chemical smell consistent with a methamphetamine lab within 5 or 6 feet of the home. Officers tried to get Wells to open the door, and could see him running from the bedroom to the bathroom.

Huffman said officers believed Wells was destroying evidence, and they entered the home. The scene was secured, and Wells was removed from the location. A search warrant was obtained and Tahlequah firefighters were called to clear the air.

Huffman said gases were so thick in the house it was difficult to see.

He said the chemicals had been poured into the bathtub and the shower was turned on.

A hazardous materials trailer was also brought to the scene.

Five different chemicals were identified by firefighters. Plastic bottles, matches, a hot plate, filters and other items were found at the residence.

Police and firefighters were continuing Friday to prepare reports on the incident.

Wells will be formally arraigned after charges are filed.
