Press staff reports

MUSKOGEE – A Vian man was arraigned Tuesday on allegations he distributed anabolic steroids.

Bobby Brown, 38, was indicted as a result of a Drug Enforcement Administration investigation.

He was named in Aug. 11 indictment that was unsealed Tuesday, charging him with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of anabolic steroids.

He’s also charged with distribution of a controlled drug to a person under 21 and distribution of a controlled drug in or near schools.

Brown allegedly possessed and distributed the anabolic steroids between March 2006 to June 2008.

Some of those he sold the steroids to were under 21, and the transactions were in or within 1,000 feet of Vian High School, said U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling.

Brown pleaded not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Steven P. Shreder. He was released under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office pending a Oct. 7 jury trial.

The punishment for possession of steroids with intent to distribute is no more than five years and a $250,000 fine and the penalty for distributing near schools is not more than 10 years and a $500,000 fine, Sperling said.
