TAHLEQUAH — A Tahlequah woman was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center Wednesday on a felony murder charge.

Cynthia Whitehorn was booked and held on a $150,000 bond, according to Tahlequah Police Department Public Information Officer Brad Robertson.

Tahlequah police officers were dispatched to the 1,300 block of Nola for an unknown disturbance call at about 9:41 p.m. Tuesday. Dispatchers could hear yelling over the phone before police arrived, Robertson said.

Upon their arrival, officers found Cynthia Whitehorn standing on the front porch, and George Whitehorn, 47, was on the floor of the apartment, bleeding from injuries.

Robertson said initial indications led officers to believe a domestic dispute had erupted, and knives were involved. George Whitehorn was transported by ambulance to Tahlequah City Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Robertson said evidence was gathered at the scene, and an investigation is continuing into the George Whitehorn’s death.

Officers don’t believe anyone else was present at the residence during the alleged dispute.

A report will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office, and prosecutors will then decide whether to file formal charges against Cynthia Whitehorn.
