Several years ago, Tahlequah Leadership Class 14 committed to helping provide a splash pad for local residents to enjoy.
As a result, Tahlequah Leadership Class 14 member Scott Rosenthal said, the group is gearing up for the third annual Business Expo, slated for Saturday, March 30.
“The Tahlequah Leadership Class 14 made an agreement to continue hosting the Expo until we could raise enough money to be a participant in getting a splash pad,” said Rosenthal. “We’re working in conjunction with the city of Tahlequah and Cherokee Nation, and believe the project is important.”
This will be the third year for the event, which is gaining popularity, according to Rosenthal.
“We already have 23 vendor booths signed up, which is over half,” said Rosenthal. “The class is still visiting with several others to participate, and we’re hoping to have a couple of very large, surprising vendors this year.”
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day. Leadership Class prizes will be given away on the hour, and participants must be present to win. Other vendors and merchants will be giving out prizes throughout the day, too.
“So far, we have several banks that have agreed to attend, including Arvest and BancFirst,” said Rosenthal. “We will have representatives from NeoHealth, Love Bottling, and the Cherokee Nation.”
Rosenthal also hopes local nonprofit entities will get involved.
“We offer a reduced entry fee for nonprofits,” said Rosenthal. “We encourage them to participate, because it’s a great way to reach out to the community. Several [nonprofit representatives] commented last year that a number of people came up to them and said they were unaware such services existed here in Tahlequah.”
One of the more popular attractions – Ask the Docs - is making a return appearance, said Rosenthal.
“We’ll have providers from the community on hand who will answer attendees health care questions for free,” said Rosenthal.
“We also have a local barber group, R.J.’s Salon. Their people are going to show up and cut hair. I think that’s exciting.”
For second row in a year, the city of Tahlequah is going to have a booth.
“I think that says a lot, when the city offices agree to have a booth and make themselves available for people in the community to talk to them,” said Rosenthal.
“The networking opportunities the Expo provides are really amazing.”
Last year, former University of Oklahoma Paul Thompson attended, signed autographs and had pictures taken with participants. The class is working on getting other celebrities to appear this year.
“That’s something we’re still working on,” said Rosenthal. “As soon as we get confirmation [on who may be attending], we’ll let you know.”
The Business Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 30, in the Herb Rozell Ballroom at Northeastern State University, and is precluded by the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours on Friday evening.
