Former HIC staffer pleads to embezzlement

TAHLEQUAH — A former Help-In-Crisis employee pleaded guilty in Cherokee County District Court Thursday on embezzlement charges and is set to spend a year in jail.

Lanica K. Foskuhl, 41, of Wagoner, was charged last July with possession of an embezzled credit card and five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.

As part of her plea agreement with prosecutors, Foskuhl was ordered to spend a year in jail without credit for time she has already served. She will also be under a two-year suspended sentence after her time in jail.

Assistant District Attorney B.J. Baker said Foskuhl was also ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution, $1,900 in fines, drug and alcohol assessment, and to be under District Attorney supervision.

Foskuhl was employed at the local Help-In-Crisis office from March 2008 until February 2012, and allegedly told officials she’d lost a debit card belonging to the agency.

But prosecutors said Foskuhl actually had kept the card herself and made several purchases with it at Walmart stores in Tahlequah and Muskogee.

Foskuhl was later fired from HIC, and the agency turned its invoices over to investigators.

Investigators said they obtained surveillance footage and photographs from both Walmart stores to identify Foskuhl on specific dates when she used the cards to buy various items, make a purchase at a jewelry counter, and then buy gift cards that were later used to purchase fuel.
