TAHLEQUAH —
Prosecutors have charged a Tahlequah man with a felony count of larceny of an automobile.
Glenn Dale Hamby III, 32, allegedly took a 2003 Ford truck on April. The vehicle belonged to Dan Parker who, according to an affidavit filed in the case, told police there was also a money bag with more than $4,000 inside the truck when it was stolen.
On April 9, a man called police and said Hamby had been bragging about stealing the truck and the cash inside it. Hamby allegedly took the money to an automobile dealer in Arkansas and purchased a Kia Sorento with the money.
Employees at the auto dealer confirmed to police that Hamby and a woman had purchased the Kia, and also that the two were in a vehicle matching the description of Parker’s stolen truck.
Police said a witness told them Hamby was also using the stolen truck to steal other items, including trailers and all-terrain vehicles.
A $25,000 bond was set on the charge in Cherokee County District Court.
Court records show Hamby has a lengthy history of criminal charges in Cherokee County, including possession of a stolen vehicle in April 2011, knowingly concealing stolen property in 2009, four counts of second-degree burglary of an automobile in 1999, grand larceny in 1999, and drug- and firearms-related charges dating back to the late ‘90s.
