Officials expect to file charges in district court against a Tahlequah man slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle on the Northeastern State University campus last week.
Gary L. Riley Jr., 40, Tahlequah High School varsity wrestling coach, was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center Feb. 7, for being in actual physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and driving while his license was revoked. Officers found Riley in a vehicle and went to the car to check his welfare.
The vehicle’s engine was running at the time the officers found Riley. He allegedly told them he was less than a block from his home.
Riley allegedly attempted to ignore officers and motion them away.
They later smelled an odor of alcohol coming from inside his vehicle and on his breath. He refused to submit to a breath test. He later admitted consuming alcohol prior to driving.
