TAHLEQUAH —
Tahlequah city councilors approved the selection of a pair of consultants Monday for a pair of projects.
GH2, a Tulsa firm, was chosen to serve as design consultant for the Tahlequah Fire Station 2 project. BWR, whose closest office is in Oklahoma City, will be consulting engineer for airport improvement projects.
The council’s selection of the two firms also allows negotiations to start on a contract for each firm’s service with the city.
The process for design consultant for the fire station started with seven firms and was shortened to a list of three. Mayor Ken Purdy explained the airport engineer process comes up for review every five years.
Airport Manager Greg Blish said 13 firms asked to be chosen for the Tahlequah project. That list was also shortened to three and BWR was chosen from the remaining three firms.
Blish said Federal Aviation Administration guidelines must be followed when considering airport engineers.
“BWR has a positive track record and a good deal of experience working in airports,” Purdy said.
Councilors also approved granting an easement to KAMO Electric for communications facilities right-of-way. Purdy said a service box will be placed on Moccasin Avenue. He said this will help support the fiber optic system in the area and at the Industrial Park. He said $2,500 will be given to the city.
A contract with Indian Capital Technology Center was also approved for use of the drug dogs. The contract is the same as the previous year’s document with the only changes being the new dates for the school year.
