An area man is back behind bars after his second arrest in less than a month for drug distribution charges.
Zachary S. Gann, 21, was stopped by Tahlequah police near First and Muskogee for routine traffic violations. Police said Gann was nervous and told them he might have warrants from other counties.
Police learned Gann was wanted in Delaware County. Court records show he was charged Nov. 7 with a felony count of knowingly concealing stolen property.
When a canine officer arrived at the scene to assist, the dog alerted to possible illegal substances, police said.
Gann was arrested for the warrant and told by police he would be going to the county jail and needed to let them know if he had any illegal substances in his possession. Police said Gann then pulled at his pants, causing a bag containing marijuana and two pipes to fall out. Police said they also found a bag with about 6 grams of marijuana and another with a white, crystal-like substance.
The items were collected and will be sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for analysis. Gann was booked on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with intent to distribute based on the way the substances were packaged.
Gann – who has addresses in Salina, Rose and Tahlequah on various court documents – was arrested about a month ago by Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies for possession of a CDS, two counts of being in possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of transporting a loaded firearm, possession with intent to distribute, two counts of carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of paraphernalia.
Deputies at the time stopped to assist Gann and another person on Mud Valley Road, where a vehicle had broken down. Deputies learned Gann had a Mayes County warrant, but were told authorities in that county didn’t want him.
Gann later admitted, according to deputies, that he had methamphetamine in an Altoid can in his back pocket. Deputies said they found five small bags of a crystal-like substance in the container.
Deputies found a loaded high-point pistol under the driver’s seat and a revolver under the passenger seat of the vehicle, and also found other bags of a crystal-like substance, glass pipes, and digital scales. Gann was also reportedly in possession of a substantial amount of cash.
Gann is being held on a $35,000 bond.
