TAHLEQUAH —
Tahlequah police arrested a local man early Wednesday morning after responding to a domestic disturbance at the Cherokee Hills Apartments.
Patrolman Cody Warren and Lt. Clint Keys where dispatched to the scene, where they met with a woman who told them she just wanted to leave the residence. The suspect in the disturbance, Michael S. Watson, 35, had left already.
Officers began to help the woman gather her belongings and later heard what they described as “unusual sounds” outside the apartment. Warren said he found Watson on the backside of the apartment, and Watson had metal objects in both hands.
Watson complied when ordered to drop the objects, but police said he then began to refuse all other commands. Watson allegedly struck Warren in the shoulder and began to fight with the officer. Keys was able to help Warren handcuff Watson.
Police said Watson continued to be combative and spat on Warren, then tried to knock out a window on a police car with his head. Officers said they had to use pepper spray on Watson.
The suspect was taken to Cherokee County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, destruction of private property, and public intoxication.
