TAHLEQUAH — Editor, Daily Press:
I am writing in support of the Sequoyah coaches, parents and individuals who may have contributed their money and efforts into getting some athletes to summer camps.
I am appalled that the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association has a rule in place to prevent caring people who want to help kids improve themselves.
I support Brent “Bear” Scott and his coaching staff for making these kids what they are – winners. I am a former player of Bill Scott, from when he took over the reigns at Bristow. I know how much effort it takes to be a winner. I know how much he cared for his players and kids in general. I have knocked on his door late at night to talk about a problem, and it was always open.
If Bill Scott hadn’t cared enough to call me after I quit football, and asked me if I wanted to come back, I would have missed out on one of the greatest times of my life.
The OSSAA has robbed these players and coaches of those same times. I watched Brent Scott grow up in the football atmosphere, and I know he was taught to care for kids and players, no matter what they did.
I want to say I am forever grateful for my time here in Bristow with the Scott family. Some 40 years later, I still have a love and fondness for my coach. I am a Bristow Pirate forever, but I am also a supporter of kids. I have my coach, Bill Scott, to thank for that.
