Sweet plans career in higher ed

TAHLEQUAH — Many of the newest high school graduates will be continuing their education this fall when they start college, including Levi Sweet of Keys High School.

Sweet attended middle school at Tenkiller, and has lived in Welling his whole life.

“I liked Keys,” said Levi. “It was a lot of fun. I grew up with a lot of people that went to Keys. The atmosphere is smaller, so you get more one-on-one time with teachers.”

Levi was involved in several organizations at Keys, including the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Social Studies Club. His hard work and impressive academic career landed him a 3.8 grade-point average.

In addition to his academic career, Levi has also invested time in developing his musical skills on the guitar and piano. He plans to continue his musical education at the college level. He is very interested in teaching music at some point.

In the fall, he will be attending Northeastern State University, and plans on pursuing degree in education and music. His long-term plans include earning a graduate degree.

Education is important to Levi, and he plans to become an educator himself some day.

“Eventually, I would like to teach on the college level,” said Levi.

Some teachers at Keys who made an impact on Levi’s life were Jessica Matthews and Ann Marie Ryals. He believes they helped prepare him for the next step.

“Mrs. Matthews was the one who pushed me to do bigger and better things,” said Levi. “Mrs. Ryals taught some of my favorite classes, because I am really into music.”

Levi is the son of Troy and Marcia Sweet, and is the older brother of Ben, Hannah and Emmie. His brother Ben will be a freshman at Keys this fall.

When Levi starts college in the fall, he will put to practice skills he learned from teachers right here in Cherokee County.

“The study habits I learned at Keys will definitely help me at college,” said Levi.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
