TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — STILWELL – A Stilwell man died at the scene of a crash late Tuesday after sliding off a wet county road and hitting a tree.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Gregory Dale Waits, 26. Waits was driving a 1991 Ford F-150 pickup north on a county road at a high rate of speed when he topped a hillcrest and lost control on a wet road.
Waits was pinned for approximately 40 minutes before being extricated by Stilwell Fire and Rescue. Reports state Waits’ condition was altered by illegal drugs, and the cause of the crash was the wet roadway.
Waits was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash, which was reported at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday, was investigated by OHP Trooper Steve Meridith assisted by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office and Stilwell Fire and Rescue.
