Tahlequah man shot, killed by police in Pryor

TAHLEQUAH — PRYOR – A Tahlequah man was shot and killed Thursday morning after allegedly running from authorities in Pryor and pointing a gun at them.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Dustin Shirrel, 30, was a passenger in a stolen vehicle stopped by a Grand River Dam Authority officer at about 9:30 a.m. Shirrell fled with a handgun and went into a wooded area, the OSBI said.

GRDA officers, troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and deputies from the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office followed Shirrel approximately one mile into the wooded area from where he had ran from the car.

During the search, officers from each of the three agencies shot and killed Shirrel after he reportedly pointed the handgun at them.

OSBI agents responded to the scene to investigate the shooting.

Authorities also arrested a Tahlequah woman, Claudia Taylor, 32, who was reportedly driving the stolen vehicle.

We'll have the full story in Friday's Daily Press.

Where do you think bicycle trails are most needed in Cherokee County?

In the downtown corridor.
Not downtown, because it would be too congested, but on peripheral streets, like Bluff, Downing and College, and Muskogee but not downtown.
On the rural highways mainly in recreational areas, like Highways 10 and 82.
Only in special areas, like parks.
I do not think Cherokee County needs any (or more) bike trails.
